Llamas & alpaca are cousins of the camel. They live to about 25 years and have only 1 baby in their lifetime. The gestational period is 345 days! They shear them once a year.
Peru is home to about 3,000 varieties of potatoes and 38 varieties of corn. One we saw is called choclo. It is about the size of a super fat quarter!
This morning we flew into Cusco. It is one of the oldest cities in South America. It means "navel" - the center! The population here is about 600,000.....unlike Lima at 10 million in the city. Our driver said it is summer and so it was easy getting to the airport early this morning. He said traffic is comparable to NYC!
345 days?! Wow - I guess we should tell Sarah she has had it easy . . .but maybe not until after she delivers! At least they only have to go through it one time!
